Poplar Place Group Home
Located in the beautiful countryside of Dinwiddie County, in Sutherland, Va., young men who have experienced difficulty with emotional and behavioral issues put new coping skills into practice in Poplar Springs’ group home. A team of behavioral health professionals is dedicated to helping young men further develop the skills they need to complete school, pursue a college education, get a job, return home or live independently as a young adult. For some who successfully complete our residential programs, Poplar Place offers a step-down transition back to the community as part of our full continuum of care.
Boys ages 12–17 are considered for our community-based group home if they:
- Have difficulty following home, school or community/social rules
- Can’t control angry outbursts
- Have difficulty using positive coping skills to deal with emotional issues
- Struggle interacting well with peers
Application materials and an adolescent interview are completed before an admission date is set.
Teens are supervised 24 hours a day, always at a minimum of a 1:4 ratio, by experienced staff who are available to support and guide them during this time of transition. At age 16, the boys are supported in job training and money management. Tutoring assistance and a school liaison are also available, in addition to a variety of activities and outings, with transportation provided. Staff follow a behavioral support model for increased positive and appropriate social behaviors.
Poplar Place is licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and accredited by The Joint Commission.
