Day Treatment

As part of Poplar Springs Hospital’s continuum of care, Poplar Springs Academy offers day treatment services as part of the unique, structured learning environment. Poplar Springs Academy is a private day school licensed by the Virginia Department of Education specializing in students with severe emotional, academic, developmental and social challenges. Licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, Poplar Springs Day Treatment is funded by Medicaid.
The Poplar Springs day treatment staff includes, but is not limited to, a program director, clinician(s) and day treatment specialists. Day treatment services focus on the social/emotional health of the student. Day treatment staff encourages introspective approaches to resolving difficult behaviors and the development of appropriate coping skills for managing stressful situations in the school setting.
The day treatment staff builds and maintains a therapeutic relationship to empower the student to gain insight into his or her previous poor academic and behavioral performances.
